Gratitude Barriers

If you’re not used to showing gratitude, it may be difficult for you at first. A negative mindset can drag you in and trap you into feeling comfortable, leaving you complacent and accepting of your negative mindset. This is a massive barrier to gratitude that we all may face at one time or another. To break this barrier to gratitude, it’s essential to practice a little bit each and every day. The more you practice it, the more natural it will become. This creates a habit that becomes automatic, and your new mindset will be one of gratitude.

Begin Thankfulness

The first thing you can do if you want to practice gratitude is to find 10 things in your life right now that you are thankful for. Write them down on a sheet of paper, a sticky note, a napkin, or anything at hand. Then, look back on this list throughout the day. This practice can help jumpstart the habit of gratitude. It reinforces positive and grateful thoughts. Beginning to practice thankfulness enables you to break down the gratitude barriers.

Keep a Gratitude Journal

A journal is a great thing that you can use in your daily recovery journey. It is especially crucial if you are working on a positive gratitude mindset. Keeping a gratitude journal requires a pen, some paper, and only a few moments of your time. We know that your days can be busy, so focus on getting your ideas out on to paper. If you’re inclined to make it fancy, go right ahead! Do what works for you. Just make sure you write in your gratitude journal every day, writing only for yourself. This establishes the habit of free-writing. Don’t worry about writing for an audience or sharing your journal with anyone. This journal is for you and you alone. Write your heart out!
