Mindfulness

Whether you are struggling with mental health issues or addiction, working toward being more self-aware is a huge aspect of personal growth. We all want to grow as people, reach our goals, and inspire others. As we become more self-aware, we find our communication skills have risen, we’re more creative, can better handle our emotions, improved relationships, higher confidence, and better decision-making skills. To better understand how to improve our self-awareness, it is helpful to determine what the characteristics are of someone with good self-awareness. Below you will find some key characteristics to work on to be more self-aware.

Confidence

Individuals with high self-awareness have more confidence. They typically want feedback to understand how to better themselves. We have all struggled with receiving feedback at some point in our lives. However, if we receive it from a trusted source we can work on being open to receiving and taking in that criticism. Working on confidence can have a direct correlation to self-awareness.

Humility

No one is the best at everything and asking for help is completely ok. Those with high self-awareness tend to understand where their shortcomings are. Working together to build each other up is a great way to live and build self-awareness

Honesty

A person who is self-aware does not over inflate themselves or sells themselves short. Being honest about your struggles is a very freeing thing. Being honest to yourself is a great beginning step in your recovery journey. No one is perfect, we all have struggles and faults. Acknowledging the truth in a situation will help you to become more self-aware.

Wisdom

Wisdom comes to people who actively try to understand themselves better. Whether you are struggling with mental health issues or addiction, it is important to continue to work towards understanding yourself better. Understanding why you react the way you do, why you feel the way you do, or simply why you do what you do, is a huge task. Gaining wisdom from your situation is an empowering thing.
