Hatred is an intense emotion. It can easily be a dangerous emotion that can take over many other areas of your life. To hate something or someone can significantly impact your mental health and overall well-being. If you find yourself with feelings of hatred towards yourself, there are probably many other emotions contributing to those feelings. Know that you are not alone. Working with a mental health professional can help you to better understand why you feel the way you feel. As you begin your journey towards self-love, here are a few tips to help you work your way out of the negativity.

#1. Keep a Journal

Journaling is a wonderful way to help you express your feelings. Sometimes when you have intense emotions, it can be challenging to get those emotions out in words and communicate them to another person. Writing your feelings down can help you release those intense emotions, work through situations, and notice patterns in your behaviors.

#2. Challenge Negative Thinking

If you notice yourself slipping into negative thinking and thoughts, try to catch yourself and turn those thoughts positive. There is always something positive you can focus on. If you cannot find positivity, remove yourself from those thoughts or situations altogether. Negative thinking can have a tremendous effect on mental health. Learning to put your mental health first is essential.

#3. Find Support

If you find yourself consumed by negative thoughts about yourself, reach out to your support group. That support may look like friends, family, or mental health professionals. Whoever you choose to reach out to can help you to work through the feelings that you may be having. Often an outside person can help you see your situation differently, think of different views, and find ways to be positive. By surrounding yourself with others who are positive, it can help you learn to see those positive moments in your own life.
