Happy

Everyone wants to find happiness, that feeling of completeness and wholesomeness. But can we really control our happiness? Everyone is born unique and can handle situations differently. Something that makes one person extremely happy may have the opposite effect on someone else. Mental health can also greatly affect how we handle and react to situations. If you have depression, for example, that will likely directly impact your ability to be positively affected by happy situations or moments. A lot of the time, we later find out that we may have actually been struggling with undiagnosed mental health problems and that is why we have been struggling with our happiness. However, there are a few things to do and focus on to help your happiness.

Surround Yourself With Positive People

Who you surround yourself with can directly impact your life in many ways, as their mood and attitude can influence how we feel. Try to surround yourself with people who bring light and positivity to your life. Positive people can help you bring up your mood, be excited for the day, and not fear your struggles so much. If you are journeying through recovery, those people should understand and respect your boundaries. The people who you choose to surround yourself with should be your biggest cheerleaders.

Small but Impactful Changes

Small changes to your daily routine can have a huge impact on your sense of happiness. Try to savor the daily moments and take time to notice the weather, sunshine, or a little extra time with your family. Try practicing more gratitude. Remember to be thankful for what you have, who you have, and your ability to continue to better yourself. Volunteer when you have time and go out of your way to help people you may not even know. You’ll be amazed at how much happiness this can make you feel.

Can we really control our happiness? There are a lot of different components to happiness. However, we can put forth efforts to move in the right direction. Surrounding ourselves with positive and supportive people will make a big difference. These people will be the ones to help us through any difficult or dark times. You can also take time to notice the small things or help others. At times, you may need help understanding your happiness.
